THE ZEISS HISTORICA SOCIETY

300 Waxwing Drive
Monroe TWP,  New Jersey 08831 USA

The Zeiss Historica Society is the international association of those interested in the products and history of the Carl Zeiss optical works.   Our interests run the entire gamut of this fascinating concern, to include industrial and medical optics, binoculars, astronomical telescopes and planetary, and the manifold photographic involvement's of the Zeiss companies. And we are also interested in the   subordinate companies, Schott glass, the Deckel and Gauthier works (Compur and Prontor shutters), Zeiss Ikon, Hensoldt (cameras, lenses, and binoculars), and even the Fritz Leitz tool company of Wetzlar. While many of our members are collectors, many others are researchers, students, and users of the finest optical products the world has ever known. In short, we are far more than simply another fan club or camera association.

Benefits of membership are legion.
We provide all new members with a copy of a listing of Zeiss Ikon catalogue numbers, a publication vital to researchers and collectors and not otherwise available. Our Journal is published semi-annually and includes articles on a broad range of topics  encompassing the entire scope of our members' interests. Finally, we produce an annual bonus, normally a reprint of a Zeiss publication of historical interest.

We hold an Annual Meeting in North America and an occasional meeting in Europe.
Our 1995 meeting was held this past fall in Toronto; the date and venue for the 1996 meetings have not yet been established though the
European meeting will possibly be held in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the founding of the works by Carl Zeiss in September.

Our President, Mr. Charles M Barringer, maintains the Zeiss data base, a comprehensive and ever-growing list of serial numbers which is made available on a regular basis to researchers. We are currently expanding this listing from Zeiss lenses to include data on Zeiss Ikon camera bodies, Compur and Prontor shutters, binoculars and telescopes, accessories, and other serial-numbered items.

There is no admission fee. Our dues are $35.00 for members in the United States,  and $45.00 for foreign members. These amounts are all payable in US Dollars.

Finally, we are always happy to answer questions and to discuss the many facets of Zeiss
. Please feel free to contact our Vice-President, Marc James Small at  msmall@roanoke.infi.net  or at +540/981-1036, or our President Charles M Barringer at +609/795-8308.
