Complete N80 Guide Errata Page The following are the known errata for version 1.0.6 of the book, as of 9/26/03.

Page 28. The diopter positions are reversed. The bottom position is -1.8 diopters, the top +0.8.

Page 52. Clarification: in dynamic autofocus mode, the spot meter follows the active focus area (i.e., the focus area you selected as the starting area may not be the point at which the exposure is measured).

Page 59. Clarification: if you alter exposure using Flexible Program, the manner in which you varied the exposure is retained until Flexible Program is cancelled. For example, if the camera suggested f/4 at 1/125 and you rotated the rear command dial to select f/2.8 at 1/250, the camera will now alter its program to use shutter speeds that are one stop faster (or apertures one stop faster, you can think of it either way). If you had altered the program to provide f/5.6 at 1/60, then the camera will use shutter speeds one stop slower (or apertures one stop slower) until you cancel Flexible Program.

Page 80. Clarification: the equations as they appear in the book don't work without proper parens in Excel, and some find the terms confusing. The equations in the included spreadsheet are correct. Here's another way of stating them:

HD = (FL ^ 2) / (f * CoC)
NFD = (HD * FD) / (HD + (FD - FL))
FFD = (HD * FD) / (HD - (FD - FL))

HD = hyperfocal distance in mm
FL = lens focal length in mm
FD = lens focus distance in mm
f = aperture
CoC = circle of confusion size in mm
NFD = near focus distance in mm
FFD = far focus distance in mm

Clarification: If you wish to use a wireless external flash (SB-26, SB-30, SB-50DX, SB-80DX) triggered by the internal flash, you should make sure that you've set the camera in spot metering or Manual exposure mode, both of which cancel the pre-flash.

Excel Spreadsheet: was not included on some early discs due to a mastering problem. If you need a copy, send me an email request.

PDF File with Custom Settings: likewise, the PDF file mentioned on page 86 was not included on some discs due to a mastering error. Again, if you need a copy, send me an email request.

Laminated Card: Point 6 on the flash card references an "Auto" flash mode. This reference should be deleted.
