With my D1 book in the final editing stages, those of you who want even more portable reference should take a look at my field reference cards. These postcard-sized references are laminated for field use, and have a full set of either white balance or depth of field information for your D1/D1x/D1h camera.
The D1 white balance set is one card that provides all the color temperatures for the various white balance settings (including the -3 to +3 adjustments), a set of color temperatures for standard lighting sources, plus MIRED information for both color temperatures and filters (allowing you to calculate an exact white balance and filter setting for any type of light).
The DOF cards include cards for 14mm, 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 85mm, and 105mm lenses, plus a hyperfocal distance card for all lenes. All cards have distances in feet and meters, and individual lens cards include near and far in-focus points for eight common focus distances at apetures from f/1.4 to f/22. For example, want to know what will be in focus if the camera is focused at 5 feet and set to f/4 at 24mm? Just look for 5 feet in the left column and f/4 in the top column for your answer (and that answer is: everything from 3.97 to 6.76 feet will be in focus). How was the data calculated? By using the Zeiss method for establishing circle of confusion (0.025 for D1 models), then applying the formulas that appear in my books. You even get hyperfocal distances for each aperture (a hyperfocal distance is the point at which you should focus to get the maximum focus depth, including infinity).
Each card set price includes shipping in the United States and Canada.
